Improve computer performance with an SSD
Slow computer? An SSD is one of the most efficient ways to speed up a slow computer. We answer some of your most common questions below.
What is an SSD?
SSD stands for Solid State Drive. An SSD can either replace, or stand side by side with your existing hard drive. Unlike a hard drive, an SSD contains no mechanical parts, instead storing its data on microchips.
What is the benefit?
An SSD has many benefits over a hard drive, including;
- More responsive Windows experience
- Faster boot times and app loading times
- Lower power consumption
- Longer laptop battery life
- More resistant to shocks, e.g. laptop being dropped
What is the process for a laptop/desktop?
For a desktop, an SSD is typically installed along side your existing hard drive. Your Windows boot files are then transferred over to the SSD and your existing hard drive can then be used for additional storage. For a laptop, usually your hard drive is fully replaced with an SSD, as laptops usually only have one drive slot. In this instance, the hard drive is cloned over to the SSD.
